Tricia D. Goostree’s path to the legal profession began early. By age ten, she already knew she wanted to become an attorney. Years later, while attending Eastern Illinois University, that childhood ambition became even clearer when she earned a place on the mock trial team and discovered that litigation matched both her instincts and her aspirations.

Tricia later attended the John Marshall Law School on a Dean’s Scholarship. During law school, she distinguished herself as a strong written and oral advocate, winning the Dean Fred F. Herzog Moot Court Competition, receiving a Moot Court Executive Board scholarship, and participating in regional and interstate moot court competitions. Those experiences refined the advocacy skills that would become central to her work as a family law attorney.

Her early legal experience included an internship with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office in the consumer fraud division and service as a Supreme Court Rule 711 clerk with the Chicago Legal Clinic. Through her work at the clinic, Tricia began developing the family law focus that would shape her career. She assisted clients with divorce matters, Orders of Protection, and child support enforcement, while regularly appearing in the Cook County Domestic Relations division. After gaining two years of valuable experience in Cook County, she broadened her practice to Kane, DuPage, Kendall, and DeKalb counties, where she became respected by judges, colleagues, and opposing counsel.

Tricia has focused exclusively on family law and domestic relations since 2002. Her practice includes complex financial disputes, maintenance, contested parenting matters, custody litigation, and appeals. Over more than twenty years, she has represented clients with determination, honesty, and compassion in both settlement discussions and courtroom proceedings. She is especially effective when cases involve difficult legal issues, high emotional stakes, and serious consequences for the families involved. Having grown up in a small town before moving to Chicago to pursue her goals, Tricia brings a grounded, personal perspective to her work and relates well to clients from many different backgrounds.

Beyond her legal practice, Tricia has remained active in service to the legal profession and the broader community. She spent four years on the board of directors of Prairie State Legal Services, volunteered with the Northern Illinois Food Bank, and provided pro bono representation to individuals in need. Through the Kane County Bar Association & Foundation, she served for three years as the high school mock trial coordinator, chaired the Admissions and Membership Committee, and contributed to the Public Relations Committee. She has also shared her knowledge as a speaker at numerous continuing legal education seminars.

Tricia’s professional accomplishments have earned substantial recognition. In 2005, she received the only “Rising Star” award ever given by the Kane County Family Law Committee. She has been selected as an Illinois Super Lawyer for twelve consecutive years, named an Illinois Leading Lawyer every year since 2015, and recognized as a Best Lawyer since 2019.

As the founder and managing partner of Goostree Law Group, P.C. in St. Charles, Illinois, Tricia continues to lead a practice devoted to family law. Away from work, she enjoys baseball, competitive bodybuilding, traveling, and discovering new places with her husband.
